We are surrounded by plastic every day, and the worst part about it is that plastic never goes away! Think about every piece of plastic you touch in any given day, i.e. grocery bags, food containers, water bottles, plastic lids, etc.
There are thousands of seabirds, sea turtles, seals and other marine mammals killed each year because of ingesting plastic or getting tangled in it.
The Center of Biological Diversity published an Article indicating that the Center has petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to begin regulating plastics as a pollutant under the Clean Water Act. See Ocean Plastics Pollution, publicized by the Center of Biological Diversity.
